Covid-19
We are keeping our fingers crossed that we will be able to run summer camps at York Sport for 2022 and the York Sport team is working hard to ensure the camps will run as safely as possible and in accordance with government guidelines.
Our priority will remain the welfare of our children, staff team and the wider community. We are therefore taking the necessary precautions and putting in place some additional measures to ensure the safe running of our camps.
We are:
- Testing staff regularly whilst they are working on camp.
- Continuing, as always, to follow stringent hygiene practices during the camps. To assist us with this we encourage you to ensure your child is aware of the importance of this and the basic practices of the ‘catch it, bin it, kill it’ campaign.
- Following PHE guidance to ensure that any staff, parents and campers who have travelled to affected regions and/or have been exposed to the virus do not attend camp.
- Increasing our staff training around health and hygiene practices and our internal policy regarding COVID-19. We are also supplying each camp with increased amounts of hand wash, hand sanitiser, and tissues.
- Working closely with our host venues to ensure a strict handover process surrounding the cleanliness of the venue.
- In the run-up to camp, we ask that if you have travelled to any affected regions or if have been exposed to the virus to please contact us immediately to discuss your booking. In the event that we are forced to close due to a Coronavirus outbreak, we will inform all parents immediately by email with as much notice as possible. In the event of a cancellation of our programmes beyond our control, we reserve the right to review and amend our cancellation policy.

Changes we have made include:
– We will follow up-to-date guidance regarding and if required children will be ‘bubbled’ into groups and will remain in the same group throughout the week.
– We will follow Government guidance regarding the wearing of masks.

No we will not but we strongly advise that you check temperatures at home before coming to camp.
-
What happens if a child is showing symptoms of Covid-19 whilst attending camp?
Our staff have had extensive training in identifying symptoms of Covid-19 and will isolate the child from other children on site and call their parents for collection. For guidance around symptoms of Covid-19 please refer to government advice.

-
Late pick-up charge
We don’t like to do this but unfortunately due to the staffing costs and the need for two members of staff to stay late, we have to charge under all circumstances for late pick-ups at a cost of £10 for every 15 minutes or part thereof. For example – if you are 20 minutes late a charge of £20 will be made. This will be due to be paid on arrival to reception.
-
What is the procedure for somebody else collecting my child?
You must advise the Camp Leader of this arrangement and they will then inform the coach. We would require the full name, contact number and relationship connection of the named guardian.
-

We would prefer ALL children to be collected from camp. If you wish your child to make their own way home, this would only be agreed in exceptional circumstances, dependent on their age and with written permission.

What group will my child be in?
Children are grouped according to their age. Each group will have a dedicated group leader who will be their main point of contact for the week. Activities will be led by different coaches.
-
Can my child be in the same group as their friend?
Absolutely! As long as they are of a similar age and both request to be with each other. On the other hand, please do not worry if they are attending camp on their own or if their sibling is in a different group – our coaches have many years’ experience and will always encourage children to get involved from the very start – which builds their confidence and helps friendships develop very quickly.
-
Can you take children under 6-years old?
Unfortunately, our policy is to only take children aged 6 and over.
-
What qualifications do the coaches hold?
All our coaches are fully qualified to at least a level 1 with the lead coaches qualified to Level 2. All are enhanced DBS checked and we will always have one first aider on site.
-
Medical Conditions
We have already asked you have any medical conditions or special requirements the children may have but if you think there is anything else you need to tell us please let us know by email in advance of the camp and inform the camp leader on the day.
If your child needs to take medication please make sure they have a letter signed by you, with explanation of how and when this needs to be administered. We can only administer prescribed medication which has been agreed in advance in writing.
Any medications should be handed to the Camp Manager and should not be stored with the child’s personal belongings. In the event of an accident, first aid will be administered to all children in our care and the emergency services will be called if necessary unless stated otherwise during the registration process.
-
Photographs and recordings
During the camp we will take photographs and video recordings to share with you during the week on social media and for future marketing purposes. If you do not wish your child to be photographed or recorded please let us know by email in advance of the camp and also inform the camp leader on the first day of camp.

– A refillable water bottle (full to start)

– Wear clothes suitable for playing lots of sport including trainers
– Waterproof clothes, warm layers, sun hat (we will go outside in most weather so please be prepared for all weather)
– Applied sun cream – Please apply a high factor sun protection cream to your child before they attend camp. During Summer we recommend that your child brings this with them to re-apply throughout the day, our coaches will remind the children at break times and lunchtimes.
– Please label your kit and your bag.
-
What not to bring
– Electronic equipment including phones, iPads, games consoles. If phones or other similar equipment are brought onto camp they must remain in the child’s bag and we cannot be held responsible for anything going missing or damaged.
– Anything valuable including watches and jewellery.
-
Lunch and Snacks
All children need to bring a healthy packed lunch with extra snacks for break times and a water bottle. As we cannot keep all children’s lunches cool until they are eaten, we do recommend adding an ice pack in the lunchbox to ensure contents are kept fresh until lunchtime.
***Please note we are a nut-free camp, so please ensure children don’t bring any food containing nuts or not products. Thank you.
Lunchtime and breaks are fully supervised.
-

You are more than welcome to chat to the coaches at the end of the session and ask for feedback on your child.
-

Typical activities will include: athletics, tennis, badminton, table tennis, cricket, rounders, soft ball, dodgeball, handball, basketball, assault courses, football, netball, team challenges, hockey and volleyball.
