As an experienced tennis coach and competitive player (with over 30 years playing experience), I am passionate about getting people involved in tennis, to learn new skills, further develop existing ones, and, most importantly, to have fun while playing. Here, at York University, there are a range of sessions available for every type of player, both juniors and adults. York University is proud of its friendly and welcoming atmosphere, which is reflected in our hugely successful junior and adult programmes. Furthermore, we aim to collaborate with local schools, and reach out to the local community by hosting a range of tennis tournaments.
As a club coach, I provide individual lessons tailored to you and the level of tennis you play. I have experience of coaching young children who have never picked up a racket before, adult beginners, cardio tennis and high-performance tennis at county level.

I started coaching when I was 16 and since then have gone on to complete my Level 2 Qualification, which enables me to work individually and as part of a team. I have helped out at summer camps and also worked part time at Liverpool Tennis Centre coaching a range of different ages, from Mini Red to Cardio Tennis for adults. I have been coaching at York Sport on the Mini Tennis Programme since I started University in 2016. I hope to continue coaching for as long as possible and passing on my knowledge and love for the sport.
Nathan Fry - Tennis Coach
Name: Nathan Fry
Qualification: LTA UKCC Level 2
Session delivery: Mini Red, Mini Orange, Mini Green
I have been playing tennis since the age of 5, competing in and enjoying tournaments around the south of England, progressing to an LTA rating of 4.2. I started working with junior players over 3 years ago, before gaining my Level 1, and then Level 2 coaching qualifications. I now play for the University of York, and run some of the university club’s hit sessions. I am looking forward to working with more players, both adult and junior, alongside other coaches under the York Sport Tennis programme.
Christopher Lewis - Tennis Coach
Qualification: LTA UKCC Level 1
Session Delivery: Mini Red and Mini Orange
I have been playing tennis for nearly 20 years, and coaching for the past three. I am a student here at the University of York and I take on a variety of roles within the Sports Centre, including assisting with tennis coaching and running parties. I have lots of experience teaching kids, as I have taught golf, football and tennis at Summer Camps, local clubs and at schools.
I thoroughly enjoy teaching and watching students’ skills develop over hours, days and weeks. I am very glad to be working with the York Sport Centre and I hope to continue teaching for many years to come!
