SWIMMING LESSONS FAQs
We have introduced a new policy regarding footwear in our York Sport Village Swimming Changing Room.
This new policy introduces the following rules: We are asking our customers to take off or change their outdoor footwear before entering our York Sport Village Swimming Changing Room facilities, including our swimming changing room shower cubicles and public changing areas.
Use of indoor footwear (multi-shoe covers and flip flops) or bare feet will only be permitted in these areas. York SportVillage reception desk also offers purchase options for indoor footwear.
The outdoor footwear can be put away either in the shoe storage compartment (under the benches neatly) or in our facility lockers, where a one pound coin or locker token is required.
To coincide with this new policy introduction, we have introduced brand new benches next to our reception area, where shoes can also be stored during your visit. However we accept no liability for shoes left in this area.
To find out more about these options please speak to a member of York Sport Village reception when you next visit.
The entrance to and exit from the lessons is through the York Sport changing village – you will need your yellow wristband to access the changing village.
Please ensure that you are on time to drop off and collect your child when the lesson finishes.
We have lockers available in the changing village for you to use for their belongings. These take either a £1 coin or a trolley token.
Please do not leave belongings in the cubicles. Any belongings left in this area are the responsibility of the owner and not the liability of York Sport.
Parents of children on our Learn to Swim scheme are able to get discounted membership at York Sport Village!

For Duckling lessons (3 years+) parents are only required to go in the water with their child for the Monday to Friday morning lessons.
Showers and cubicles are both available in the Village Changing room. We encourage where possible to wait and shower at home to reduce time spent in the area.

HOLIDAY ACTIVITIES FAQs
If you need to contact camp please call reception on:
01904 323855 or 323856
We have already asked if you have any medical conditions or special requirements the children may have but if you think there is anything else you need to tell us please let us know by email in advance of the camp and inform the camp leader on the day.
If your child needs to take medication please make sure they have a letter signed by you, with explanation of how and when this needs to be administered. We can only administer prescribed medication which has been agreed in advance in writing.
Any medications should be handed to the Camp Manager and should not be stored with the child’s personal belongings. In the event of an accident, first aid will be administered to all children in our care and the emergency services will be called if necessary unless stated otherwise during the registration process.
Policies and procedures are in place for the following:
First Aid, Photographs and Media, Risk Assessments, Safeguarding, Accidents and First Aid, Behaviour Management, Code of Conduct, Medication, Lost Property, Mobile Phone Policy.
These can be viewed on request. Please contact the [email protected]
We require 7 days notice for a full refund and a minimum of 48 hours notice for your booking to be moved to an alternative date/credit on your account for future camps.
If you need to cancel due to illness, we will require a doctors note to issue credit.
Bookings can be made via our booking system which uses Active Network. A link is available from our Holiday Activities page.
To access your online Active Network account, you will need the online account link. Once you have booked onto a holiday activity, the link can be located at the bottom of your confirmation email.
Note: Confirmation emails are received after completing a registration online. If you’re a new user and was internally registered by an organisation Admin, you will receive an invite email after the confirmation email that prompts you to create a password/online account.
The organisation can also provide the online account link.
The online account link takes you to the login screen.
Reset your password on the login screen by clicking 'Forgot your password?'
Unfortunately not, we believe a full week offers a better camp experience for the children. This option is not currently available.
Camp arrival time: Between 8.30am and 9.15am
Camp departure time: Between 4.30pm and 5.30pm
Please ensure each day your child brings with them:
- A refillable water bottle (full to start)
- A healthy lunch and two snacks for morning and afternoon break (no nuts please*)
- As we cannot keep all children’s lunches cool until they are eaten, we do recommend adding an ice pack in the lunchbox to ensure contents are kept fresh until lunchtime.
- Wear clothes suitable for playing lots of sport including trainers
- Waterproof clothes, warm layers, sun hat (we will go outside in most weather so please be prepared for all weather)
- Applied sun cream – Please apply a high factor sun protection cream to your child before they attend camp. During Summer we recommend that your child brings this with them to re-apply throughout the day, our coaches will remind the children at break times and lunchtimes.
- Please label your kit and your bag.
*Please Note: We are a nut-free camp, so please ensure children don’t bring any food containing nuts ingredients or nut products.
What happens in bad weather?
Sadly, we cannot guarantee sunshine! However, we will have indoor facilities on most days. Please, ensure children have appropriate clothing for all weather on each day as we know how quickly the weather can change!
- Electronic equipment including phones, iPads, games consoles. If phones or other similar equipment are brought onto camp they must remain in the child’s bag and we cannot be held responsible for anything going missing or damaged.
- Anything valuable including watches and jewellery.
Unfortunately, due to staffing costs and the need for two members of staff to stay late in this circumstance we have a charge under all circumstances for late pick-ups at a cost of £10 for every 15 minutes or part thereof. For example, if you are 20 minutes late a charge of £20 will be made.
This will be due to be paid on arrival to reception via card only.
We also do not offer service of an early drop off/late pick-up facility as we already offer extended hours from 8.30am to 5.30pm.
You must advise the Camp Leader of the arrangement for someone else collecting your child and they will then inform the coach. In this circumstance, we would require the full name, contact number and relationship connection of the named guardian.
We would also prefer all children to be collected from camp. If you wish your child to make their own way home, this would only be agreed in exceptional circumstances, dependent on their age and with written permission.
All our coaches are fully qualified to at least a level 1 with the lead coaches qualified to Level 2. All are enhanced DBS checked and we will always have one first aider on site.
We cannot allow any adults to remain on site during camp.
We have a responsibility to every child to ensure that the only adults present are Enhanced DBS checked and part of our organisation.
You are more than welcome to chat to the coaches at the end of the session and ask for feedback on your child.
