With a wide range of sports societies available, students can stay active and socialise through college sports and the renowned annual Roses sports competition. Events and competitions

As a York student, you’ll be spoiled for choice as a punter or a player. Our sporting highlights include:

  • College Varsity (York versus Durham): The only inter-university college competition in the UK.
  • Roses (York versus Lancaster): The largest inter-university competition in Europe.
College sport

The college sport system at York offers all students the opportunity to get involved in sport at university in a fun and sociable environment. Everyone is welcome to take part, regardless of ability or experience. Whether you’re looking to get active or simply just make new friends, college sport is a great way to get involved in college life! There is a wide range of college sports, and you can choose to play as many or as little as you wish with your college sport membership. The full list of sports on offer is as follows:

College clubs will normally train once a week and then play in weekly matches against other college teams, all fixtures take place on campus.

BECOME A COLLEGE SPORT REP

Sports Reps work within your college to help organise teams, support captains, and run sports events throughout the year. These are elected positions within your college. (Elections take place annually in November). Committee Reps from each College come together to form the College Sport Committee.
