Fitness Classes

With over 75 classes to choose from at York Sport Village, we offer something for all ages, fitness levels and abilities.

We have fitness favourites like Zumba, Group Cycle and Yoga, as well as a range of popular Les Mills classes like Body Combat and Body Pump. Our Box HIIT classes pack a punch, or why not try something lower impact like Aqua or the perennial Over 50s Fitness? Here at York Sport, we pride ourselves on giving you as much choice as possible when it comes to our fitness classes and we’re to help you.

The Instructors

Our team of friendly and experienced instructors will make you feel welcome and ensure that you have a fun workout in our air-conditioned studios. If you’re new to the class, the instructor will welcome you and guide you through the session. Options are available for all abilities, making it fun for everyone.

If you prefer online classes, we have a selection of livestream and on-demand classes available through York Sport Wellness. You can access our on-demand service here.

Pay as you go

Good news! If you want to try out a fitness class before committing to a membership, our classes are available on a pay-as-you-go basis. Off-peak classes (before 5pm Monday to Friday, and after 12pm on weekends) are priced at £4.50, and peak time classes (after 5pm Monday to Friday, and before 12pm on weekends) are priced at £7.50. Non-members can book up to 3 days in advance for classes with a Pay and Play account on the York Sport Hub.

  • Abs

    From crunches to mountain climbers, our Abs class is a short, high-intensity workout focused on core strength exercises!

    Abs classes are held at the York Sport Village.

  • Aqua

    A water based low impact class, great for your joints. Using the resistance of the water, you will perform a fun routine to music whilst increasing your heart rate and toning your muscles.

  • Body Attack

    A sports inspired cardio workout for building strength and stamina. This high energy interval class combines athletic aerobic movements with strength and stabilisation movements.

  • Body Balance

    The Yoga, Tai Chi, Pilates workout that builds flexibility and strength. Stretches, moves and poses set to music create a holistic workout that brings the body into a state of harmony.

  • Body Combat

    A cardio workout inspired by martial arts and draws from a wide range of disciplines such as Karate, Boxing, Taekwondo, Tai Chi and Muay Thai.

  • Body Pump

    A weight-based group fitness programme that challenges every muscle group in your body by using weights and music to help you strengthen and tone.

  • Box HIIT

    Box HIIT is an exercise class based on the training concepts boxers use to keep fit. Classes can take a variety of formats but a typical one may involve shadow-boxing, skipping, hitting pads, press-ups, shuttle-runs and sit-ups.

  • Circuits

    A great combination of conditioning, resistance and aerobic exercise. It is easy to follow and enables you to work to your own strengths and capabilities within exercise stations. Great for burning fat & toning up.

  • Group Cycle

    A high intensity bike based workout, great for burning calories and toning muscles. Our new Group Cycle studio enhances your workout, keeping you motivated and working hard.

  • Group Cycle Virtual

    A high intensity bike based workout, great for burning calories and toning muscles. Group Cycle Virtual is very similar to a normal group cycle class; however you complete this exercise without the presence of a physical instructor.

  • HIIT

    High intensity interval training (HIIT) combines short bursts of intense activity with periods of rest or lower-intensity exercise, great for burning calories and improving cardiovascular fitness.

  • LBT (Legs, Bums & Tums)

    A class focused on improving tone, definition, strength and endurance.

  • MetaFit

    Looking for the workout that gets big results? To burn fat you need to change the resting metabolism. Work big muscle groups with simple unchoreographed, high intensity intervals and get quick results.

  • My Kind of Yoga

    My Kind of Yoga is a simple, no fluff approach to Yoga. It’s more fitness based than a traditional yoga class. We don’t use lots of Sanskrit names for poses. It’s a class for everybody with any type of body. You don’t need to be super-flexible, you just need to come and enjoy yourself!

  • Outdoor Conditioning

    Everything you need for an intense and fun workout! From battle ropes and burpees to tuck jumps and tyre flips, come and give it a go now the evenings are getting brighter!

  • Over 50’s Fitness

    A low impact class for people ages 50 and over, designed to help improve fitness, mobility and flexibility. The class will get you moving and provide a whole body workout with fun exercises.

  • Pilates

    A form of body conditioning that focuses on spinal and pelvic alignment. It also encourages breathing control, co-ordination and balance. A great way to improve your core and relieve stress.

  • Pilates Miniball

    A form of body conditioning that focuses on spinal and pelvic alignment. Each exercise includes moving with a small ball to provide extra core engagement.

  • Stretch

    Designed to lengthen the body, strengthen the core, increase your range of movement, decrease your risk of injury and improve your quality of life.

  • Yoga

    Yoga is an ancient form of exercise that focuses on strength, flexibility and breathing to boost physical and mental wellbeing.

  • Zumba

    Move your body Salsa, Merengue, Cumbia, Reggeaton, Mambo, Cha-Cha, Hip Hop and even Belly Dancing. Combining fast and slow rhythm to tone and sculpt your body whilst burning fat.
