Fitness Classes

With over 75 classes to choose from at York Sport, we offer something for all ages, fitness levels and abilities.

We have fitness favourites like Zumba, Group Cycle and Yoga, as well as a range of popular Les Mills classes like Body Combat and Body Pump. Our Boxercise classes pack a punch, or why not try something lower impact like Aqua or Over 50s Fitness? Here at York Sport, we pride ourselves on giving you as much choice as possible when it comes to our fitness classes and we’re to help you.

The Instructors

Our team of friendly and experienced instructors will make you feel welcome and ensure that you have a fun workout in our air-conditioned studios. If you’re new to the class, the instructor will welcome you and guide you through the session. Options are available for all abilities, making it fun for everyone.

Pay as you go

Good news! If you want to try out a fitness class before committing to a membership, our classes are available on a pay-as-you-go basis. Off-peak classes (before 5pm Monday to Friday, and after 12pm on weekends) are priced at £4.50, and peak time classes (after 5pm Monday to Friday, and before 12pm on weekends) are priced at £7.50. Non-members can book up to 3 days in advance for classes with a Pay and Play account on the York Sport Hub.

  • Abs

    From crunches to mountain climbers, our Abs class is a short, high-intensity workout focused on core strength exercises!

    Abs classes are held at York Sport Village.

  • Aqua

    A water based low impact class, great for your joints. Using the resistance of the water, you will perform a fun routine to music whilst increasing your heart rate and toning your muscles.

  • Attack/LBT

    A fun class combining the sports inspired cardio of Body Attack with the strength and toning of LBT. High and low impact options make it suitable for all!

  • Body Attack

    A sports inspired cardio workout for building strength and stamina. This high energy interval class combines athletic aerobic movements with strength and stabilisation movements.

  • Body Balance

    The Yoga, Tai Chi, Pilates workout that builds flexibility and strength. Stretches, moves and poses set to music create a holistic workout that brings the body into a state of harmony.

  • Box HIIT

    Box HIIT is a high-intensity cardio workout based on boxing techniques using gloves and paired pad work. Suitable for all levels, this non-contact workout will help you to improve your agility, strength and overall fitness.

  • Cardio HIIT

    A high-intensity interval training workout to improve cardiovascular fitness, increase speed and maximise calorie burn.

  • Circuits

    A great combination of conditioning, resistance and aerobic exercise. It is easy to follow and enables you to work to your own strengths and capabilities within exercise stations. Great for burning fat & toning up.

  • Dance Fit

    An aerobic exercise class incorporating different dance movements. Dance fit is a fun full-body workout, suitable for all abilities.

  • FTP Test

    FTP – Functional Threshold Power – is a common training metric used in cycling, indicating the amount of work you can sustain for specific time periods. Put yourself to the test and track your progress! Re-test every 6-8 weeks.

  • Group Cycle

    A bike-based workout, great for burning calories and toning muscles. From hill climbs to team sprints, we have something for everyone, from seasoned athletes to complete beginners. Our Group Cycle sessions keep you motivated and working hard.

  • Group Cycle Virtual

    Using your FTP score, work your way through a virtual session designed and delivered by the master trainers at Technogym.

  • Introduction to Weights

    Looking to include weights into your workout but not sure where to start? This is the class for you! Join our fitness team in the gym for this beginner’s class to gain the knowledge and confidence.

    Intro to Weights classes are held at York Sport Village and York Sport Centre.

  • Kettlebells

    A high-intensity workout that can help meet your toughest fitness goals, combining functional exercises such as “the swing,” “the squat”, “the clean” and “the press” that will allow you to increase your calorie burn, raise your metabolic rate and challenge your fitness.

  • LBT (Legs, Bums & Tums)

    A class focused on improving tone, definition, strength and endurance.

  • MetaFit

    Work big muscle groups with high intensity interval training and get quick results. From sprints to push-ups, challenge yourself throughout this 30 minute class.

  • Outdoor Conditioning

    Looking for a functional, fun fitness class whilst taking in the beautiful English weather? Look no further! Our outdoor conditioning classes have it all, ranging from flipping tyres, pulling ropes, and bunny hops to Fartlek and HIIT. Suitable for everyone!

  • Over 50’s Fitness

    A low impact class for people ages 50 and over, designed to help improve fitness, mobility and flexibility. The class will get you moving and provide a whole body workout with fun exercises.

  • Pilates

    A form of body conditioning that focuses on spinal and pelvic alignment. It also encourages breathing control, co-ordination and balance. A great way to improve your core and relieve stress.

  • Pilates Miniball

    A form of body conditioning that focuses on spinal and pelvic alignment. Each exercise includes moving with a small ball to provide extra core engagement.

  • Seated Aerobics

    Seated Aerobics is a chair-based exercise class, suitable for all abilities, that incorporates flexibility, aerobics, balance and strength, using a range of equipment and activities.

  • Shapes

    New for 2024! An invigorating blend of Pilates, barre, and power yoga set to modern beats. With small, controlled movements, you sculpt and strengthen all major muscle groups, improve alignment and increase flexibility. It’s a low impact but intense way to heat up your training.

  • Stretch

    Designed to lengthen the body, strengthen the core, increase your range of movement, decrease your risk of injury and improve your quality of life.

  • Total Tone

    Total Tone is a dynamic and comprehensive fitness class designed to sculpt and strengthen your entire body. This high-energy, barbell-based class, delivered to the beat of the music, targets all major muscle groups, helping you to enhance muscle tone, boost endurance, and improve overall fitness levels.

  • Virtual Pilates

    Virtual Pilates classes are shorter duration sessions, delivered virtually by the master trainers at Technogym. The controlled movements of Pilates not only exercise and strengthen your body but also help control your breathing and concentrate your mind.

  • Virtual Yoga

    Virtual Yoga classes are shorter duration sessions, delivered virtually by the master trainers at Technogym. Improve your strength, balance, and coordination and discover a newfound ability to manage how your body moves.

  • Women & Non-Binary

    Women & Non-Binary classes at York Sport offer an opportunity for those who may not feel comfortable using gym facilities to exercise within a safe space.

    Yoga is an ancient form of exercise that focuses on strength, flexibility and breathing to boost physical and mental wellbeing. Styles of Yoga offered at York Sport include Fitness, Hatha and Vinyasa/Flow.

  • Zumba

    Move your body Salsa, Merengue, Cumbia, Reggeaton, Mambo, Cha-Cha, Hip Hop and even Belly Dancing. Combining fast and slow rhythm to tone and sculpt your body whilst burning fat.
