Fitness Classes

We have the largest range of fitness classes in York! With over 100 classes to choose from, we offer something for all ages, fitness levels and abilities. We have fitness favourites like Zumba, Spin and Yoga, as well as the new and unique classes like Group Cycle. We also hold Aqua classes in our pool, virtual cycling classes in our studio and outdoor conditioning classes outside during the summer months. We pride our self on giving you as much choice as possible when it comes to fitness classes and we’re to help you.

The Instructors

Our team of friendly and experienced instructors will make you feel welcome and ensure that you have a fun workout in our air conditioned studios. If you’re new to the class, the instructor will welcome you and guide you through the session. Options are available for all abilities, making it fun for everyone. If you prefer classes without an instructor, we have a selection of Virtual Classes which run instructor-less throughout the day which can be found on our virtual timetable

Member Classes

Most classes are only available to our members. If you’re a member you can book quickly and easily online via our booking portal.

Pay as you go

If you don’t have a membership, don’t worry, we have a wide and varied range of pay as you go classes available at the Sport Village and Sport Centre, from box fit to Zumba we will have a class to suit you! At York Sport Village you can join in any class between 06:15 – 17:00 (14:00 – 19:00 on weekends) for just £4:50 a session. All classes at the Sport Centre are available on a Pay as You Go basis for just £3.50 per session.

  • Aqua

    A water based low impact class, great for your joints. Using the resistance of the water, you will perform a fun routine to music whilst increasing your heart rate and toning your muscles.

    Aqua classes are held at the York Sport Village.

  • Baby Barre

    This ‘anything goes’ Barre Concept class is for anyone looking after a baby who wants to get fit through a dance inspired workout. Combining elements of Pilates, Yoga and Ballet, Baby Barre will have you working muscles you never knew you had- all whilst bonding with your baby!

    Baby Barre classes are held at the York Sport Village.

  • Barre

    Barre is a fusion of Ballet, Pilates, Yoga and resistance training. Set to up-tempo music this class gives you a fast and fun full body workout, with no tutu needed!

  • Body Attack

    A sports inspired cardio workout for building strength and stamina. This high energy interval class combines athletic aerobic movements with strength and stabilisation movements.

    Body Attack classes are held at the York Sport Village and York Sport Centre.

  • Body Balance

    The Yoga, Tai Chi, Pilates workout that builds flexibility and strength. Stretches, moves and poses set to music create a holistic workout that brings the body into a state of harmony.

    Body Balance classes are held at the York Sport Village and York Sport Centre.

  • Body Combat

    A cardio workout inspired by martial arts and draws from a wide range of disciplines such as Karate, Boxing, Taekwondo, Tai Chi and Muay Thai.

  • Body Pump

    A weight-based group fitness programme that challenges every muscle group in your body by using weights and music to help you strengthen and tone.

    Body Pump classes are held at the York Sport Village.

  • Box Fit

    Box Fit is an exercise class based on the training concepts boxers use to keep fit. Classes can take a variety of formats but a typical one may involve shadow-boxing, skipping, hitting pads, press-ups, shuttle-runs and sit-ups.

    Box Fit classes are held at the York Sport Village and York Sport Centre.

  • Circuits/Express Circuits

    A great combination of conditioning, resistance and aerobic exercise. It is easy to follow and enables you to work to your own strengths and capabilities within exercise stations. Great for burning fat & toning up.

    Circuit classes are held at the York Sport Village.

  • Fitness Yoga

    A more upbeat and slightly faster version of our regular yoga classes with the focus on improving your range of motion and flexibility whilst still performing yoga style moves.

    Fitness Yoga classes are held at the York Sport Village and York Sport Centre.

  • Fitness Pilates

    This class incorporates pilates-based movements into a choreographed routine designed to strengthen and lengthen the body.

  • Group Cycle

    A high intensity bike based workout, great for burning calories and toning muscles. Our new Group Cycle studio enhances your workout, keeping you motivated and working hard.

  • Kettlebells

    A cast iron weight used to perform ballistic exercises that combine cardiovascular work with strength and flexibility training.

  • LBT Circuits

    A fun and lively class designed to tone you up and increase your fitness. A mixture of aerobic and toning moves will help you achieve your goals. Lots of options makes this class suitable for all levels.

  • LBT (Legs, Bums & Tums)

    A class focused on notoriously problematic areas, aimed at improving tone, definition, strength and endurance.

  • LesMills RPM

    This 30 or 45-minute indoor cycling class is set to the rhythm of motivating music, with Les Mills instructors on the screen. It burns a lot of calories, gets you fit and leaves you feeling euphoric.

  • Metabolic Effect

    A rest based workout. The ‘metabolic effect’ is the afterburn effect created by using dumbbells, calisthenics, plyometrics, and hybrid exercises.

  • MetaFit

    Looking for the workout that gets big results? To burn fat you need to change the resting metabolism. Work big muscle groups with simple unchoreographed, high intensity intervals and get quick results.

    MetaFit classes are held at the York Sport Village.

  • Outdoor Conditioning

    York Sport Boot camp takes place in the summer months when the weather is a little nicer. Our instructor led outdoor conditioning classes focus on strength and muscle building.

  • Over 50’s Fitness

    A low impact class for people ages 50 and over, designed to help improve fitness, mobility and flexibility. The class will get you moving and provide a whole body workout with fun exercises.

    Over 50’s Fitness classes are held at the York Sport Village.

  • Pilates

    A form of body conditioning that focuses on spinal and pelvic alignment. It also encourages breathing control, co-ordination and balance. A great way to improve your core and relieve stress.

  • Pure Stretch/Stretch

    Designed to lengthen the body, strengthen the core, increase your range of movement, decrease your risk of injury and improve your quality of life.

  • Step & Tone

    A cardio workout to ensure a good burn of calories and a good muscle toning. A range of exercises for toning the upper body, arms, shoulders, legs, thighs and abdomen. It helps maintain your fitness level and puts you in a good mood.

  • Spin

    A high intensity bike based workout, great for burning calories and toning muscles.

    Spin classes are held at the York Sport Centre.

  • Sufferfest

    Sufferfest are video based Virtual Cycling classes catering for everyone from group fitness enthusiasts to competitive cyclists and triathletes.

    Sufferfest classes are held at the York Sport Village.

  • Zumba

    Move your body Salsa, Merengue, Cumbia, Reggeaton, Mambo, Cha-Cha, Hip Hop and even Belly Dancing. Combining fast and slow rhythm to tone and sculpt your body whilst burning fat.

    Zumba classes are held at the York Sport Village.

  • Zumba Gold

    Designed for the older adult, this fun dance-based class uses the same routines as regular Zumba, but with less intensity and modified movement patterns.
